A. I choose this sentence from the essay because I think Doris Lessing is right by mentioning that literature and history are less valued by the young because they are into many new things that they forget about their history and literature.

In this chapter Laboratories of Social Change by Doris Lessing, she mentions that to listed to the news is enough to make you realize that you are living in a dangerous place. It talks about how people become depressed after they see all they wrong things that are happening in their world. When the large number of young people reach the age of political activity they adopt a different attitude. Lessing gave and example of how the white minority in Southern Rhodesia had democracy and the black majority had no rights of any kind.
